中國(guó)封建社會(huì)基本是“人分五等，光成七色”，有“三教九流”各色人等（all walks of life)。常說(shuō)的“上九流”，即上流社會(huì)人等，與英語(yǔ)中的highbrows不同?！跋戮帕鳌敝傅氖莿趧?dòng)者與平民百姓， 也不同于英語(yǔ)中l(wèi)owbrows。奇怪的是商人不在“上九流”，而屬于 “下九流”，可見(jiàn)中國(guó)封建社會(huì)商賈不興，資本主義發(fā)展緩慢，是有 一定歷史緣由的。
